Band and Strings Schedule 16-17:
- Instrumental Music Class begins the week of September 5, 2016.
- Please look at the final instrumental music schedule when it is sent out and posted in the locker to the right!
Goals:
- Students will be able to identify the different parts of their instruments.
- Students will be able to finger and play notes with proper technique and breath control.
- Students will be able to read and write simple music notation.
- Students will be able to identify and understand basic music symbols and terms.
- Students will be responsible and practice at least 60 minutes weekly.
- Students will demonstrate their abilities during school and district concerts.
- Students will learn to love music and see how much fun it is!
Student Responsibilities:
- Students need to be prepared before class by practicing their instrument.
- Students need to bring their instrument, a pencil, their method book and sheet music to every class.
- Students will only write in pencil.
- Students will be respectful of each other, the teacher, and all equipment in the room.

Instruments and Supplies:
**All cases must be labeled with students First and Last Name!
- Flute……..............cleaning rod and cotton cloth
- Clarinet….............cleaning swab, cork grease, 1 box of reeds (size 1½)
- Alto Saxophone..cleaning swab, cork grease, neck strap, 1 box of reeds (size 1½)
- Trumpet….............valve oil
- Trombone…..........slide oil, slide grease
- Violin……..............rosin, shoulder rest, bow
- Cello…..................rosin, bow, foot stopper
Drums…..5th Grade Only:
- This is for students who have played a melodic instrument for at least one year in Beginning Band.
- Students must continue playing their primary instrument if they are allowed to play drums.
- Students must have excellent behavior and attendance to be considered for this instrument.
- Please put drums next to your primary instrument if you want to do this.

*It is important to remember that this is not a solo recital, but a group performance which is why we all need to abide by the concert uniform.
*No jeans or shorts will be allowed!

-No exerience is required.
*Where do I sign up for class?
-The registration form is in your school packet and located on this website.
*How do I get an instrument for my son or daughter?
-For all instruments it is best to go to the local music store.
WIth the violin and cello your child will need to be measured for the proper size instrument.
*How much do I have to pay?
-There is a donation of $250.00 asked for at the time of registration.
*Can my son or daughter quit mid season?
- No, this is a year long program and students are expected to practice their instrument 60 minutes a week.
